“A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed”. This was the proclamation of the Canadian Parliament to observe Thanksgiving in Canada. Our Indigenous peoples in North America also had a history of celebrating the fall harvest. The Church has also played a vital role in the establishment of Thanksgiving as a Canadian National Holiday. All this comes together on this weekend of family, friends and food.
Giving thanks is a Christian principle. The entire Bible contains numerous and repeated reminders to give thanks to God. This sermon on Thanksgiving we want to explore the notion that we may not need to give thanks FOR everything, but rather give thanks IN everything.
